My Speech For Family Events

Hello Student Council, Students, Teacher and principal. My name is Kayla Anandia and I am from year 7A, my year level and I have been thinking that we need more school events. So we made a proposal to give to the student council so we can have more school event. We thought of three events and it could be for anybody as long as they are a GJS student or alumni. We have thought about the details and who is going to participate to create these events.

The first event is Indonesia day or culture day. We could have this event every year and the difference about Indonesia day and batik day is we do still use Indonesian clothes but we play Indonesian games and eat yummy Indonesian cuisine. We could learn about a certain Indonesian hero that fought for our country for secondary students, We could also have a upacara (flag raising ceremony). We could have the event on August because that is the month of when we have our independence day. The reason why we wanted the idea of having the Indonesian Day or Culture Day is because our generation has been influenced by Americans, Kpop and European culture, its not a bad thing but it is a bad thing to forget your own culture, where your from and we want to preserve the Indonesian Culture in our school. Also to show how diverse how Global Jaya School is. Everyone can participate to this event we could decorate by making posters that have quotes that our heroes said, make posters that have the Indonesian flag and stick in the playground, gym and soccer field. That is our first event.

Our second event is having more sports events such as soccer day, basketball day and many more. It would be like any other sport event but we only focus on one sport. We would play two year levels in one team for example Garuda 7-8 against Rajawali 7-8. If we would like, we can use the certain sport jersey and equipment but still follow the house color. We think that it would be for secondary only because primary already has a sports day. We need this event because a lot of students in our school hate doing PE maybe because what sport it is, its boring and they dont like the teams. So we will make a day that we could have one certain sport on that day and make it more fun and exciting for students. There will still be points for each team the first winner will get a prize. The judges and the referee could be GJS teacher that is involved in sports.

Lastly our final idea is Halloween day/night. We could choose a certain day/night to have it on. There would be activities to do there such haunted house, performance, eating and face painting. For the haunted maze we could decorate the gym and make it scary. The performance would be by Global Jaya students. We want this event to be for grade 6-12. We created an idea for this event because we can take a night off and have a fun time at the event with our friends. Everyone can participate in decorating and performing, some people can dress-up as characters and hide in the gym.

That was our three ideas for school events that the year 7 would like to propose. Having these events could make people more social of their surroundings. We would like opinions from the principals and students as soon as possible. To have these events will show diversity within Global Jaya School because we can celebrate events from other countries not just Indonesia. Thankyou for all your time and we hope everybody would consider having these events.

DEBATE RELFECTION

How well organized do you think your group was?
I think our team was okay we weren't very organized but not bad because we had a lot of information that could help our debate but we didn't use them and list them down.

2. How structured was your argument?
I think my argument was good because I used PEEL and put them in those arrangements so that the points and evidence would be clear.

3. Did you have enough evidence and facts to support your assertion (topic)? I think I have enough but not a lot that could back up my assertion because this topic about death penalty and human rights could be facts but most of them are opinions because people have opinions that death penalty should be banned from all countries. So its kind of hard finding evidence but some of the evidence are based on real events that happened.

4. Do you feel your team argued your case well or could you have done better? I think we did it well because this topic is about losing a persons life after what they have done and most of those people have families and it could very sad so we make peoples feelings change there perspective.

5. What do you think you did well and what could you work on to improve next time? I think I did well with my point and evidence. I also think that I did well while talking when it was the debate.

6. Do you think you used your time wisely when researching and practicing your debate? I think I used my time kind of wisely because at first we got really confused what to do and we started catching up so we then we knew what to do

7. Do you think you incorporated Aristotle’s persuasive techniques Ethos/Pathos and Ethos, why or why not? Not really but I think my team mate did because her topic was giving people a second chance in life that is pathos I think she was very good and her argument was good too.

8. Which group do you feel best argued their case for each Debate?
For the currency I think that best argued was affirmative because there evidence was strong and there rebuttal was strong too. There ideas and points were very good.

9. Overall give yourself a final grade out of the three criteria you were assessed against, a maximum of 21. Overall I think out of 21 I would get 18 or 19 I think my speech was good and my pronunciation.

HOLES SUMMARY PART 2

Holes summary

Three days after the incident with the Warden, Mr. Sir is still pouring Stanley's water onto the ground when he comes by with the water truck. Luckily, when Mr. Pendanski drives the truck, he feels sorry for Stanley so he gave him extra water for his canteen. That day, Mr. Sir comes by with the water truck and fills Stanley's canteen with water.  But he takes his canteen into the truck for a minute where Stanley can't see what he's doing and brings it back. Stanley wonders what Mr. Sir might have put into his water. Trout Walker and his wife, the redhead Linda Miller, tie Kate up while she is sleeping. Trout has lost all his money and demands to know where Kate's outlaw loot is. Trout and Linda make Kate walk barefoot across the hot sand until Kate dies from the bite of a yellow-spotted lizard. There is thunder and lightning but no rain. During a flash of lightning Stanley thinks one of the mountains looks like a giant fist with a thumb sticking up. He thinks of how his stranded great- grandfather said he had found refuge on God's thumb. Stanley continues to worry about Zero Mr Sir comes with the truck to give them water, Stanley tries to drive the truck and crash to one of the holes and he gets out and ran away. Stanley walks towards the thumb mountain but is exhausted. He sees something in the dirt and finds that it is part of a boat named Mary Lou.

There is a hole under the boat and Zero is in it. Zero and Stanley wondered who is Mary Lou. Stanley digs in the hole and Zero sneaks into camp to get water and food. Zero finds frosted flakes, which he and Stanley both find revoltingly sweet after more than a week of eating only onions. Stanley and Zero finally dig up a suitcase and just as they are preparing to leave a light shines in their faces and they find the Warden standing in front of them. The Warden shines a flashlight on Zero, who is holding the suitcase until she sees that there is a deadly yellow-spotted lizard on the suitcase. Stanley realizes he is standing in a lizard's nest.

HOLES SUMMARY

This is my summary by far.

Stanley Yelnats, a boy who has bad luck due to a curse placed on his great- great-grandfather, is sent to Camp Green Lake. Stanley and the other boys at the camp are forced to dig large holes in the dirt every day. As Stanley continues to dig holes and meet the other boys at the camp and the story reviles the why Stanley's family has a curse. When he was a boy, Stanley's great-great-grandfather, Elya Yelnats from Madam Zeroni. In exchange for a promise ,Elya's promise was that after the pig grew strong he would carry Madame Zeroni, who only had one leg, up a mountain and sing her a song that she had taught him. As Elya's prepose to Myra he brought his pig because the one who has the bigger pig gets to marry Myra and Elya's and the other man's pig was the same. So Myra's father let her choose and she was very confused. So Elya got mad and ran away, as Elya was running to a boat to move to America he forgot his promise to Madam Zeroni. Elya marries and has a child in America and always thinks about Madame Zeroni.

One hundred and ten years before Stanley arrives at Camp Green Lake, the town of Green Lake is a beautiful place where peach trees bloom throughout the spring. In this Texas town, the schoolteacher, Katherine Barlow, falls in love with Sam, the onion seller. While Katherine and Sam are alive, racism is institutionalized in the United States and it is against the law for a black man to kiss a white woman. Because Sam is black and Katherine is white, the people in the town become irate when they find that Katherine and Sam have kissed. Then Charles Walker or Trout Walker found out that they kissed so Charles Walker putted Miss Kartherine's school on fire. So miss Katherine was running to the sherif and the sherif is in the same team as Trout Walker. Katherine and Sam attempt to escape but their boat is destroyed while only half way across the lake and Sam is killed.  Katherine is driven mad by her grief and becomes an outlaw known as Kissin' Kate Barlow. Her name refers to the fact that she kisses the men she kills, leaving a lipstick imprint of her lips on their faces. In her twenty years of robbing people in the west, she happens to rob Stanley's great- grandfather while he is on his way from New York to California. Because Green Lake dries up, the citizens of the town all move away and by the time that the land is serving as Camp Green Lake.At one point Stanley digs up half of a lipstick tube that has the initials KB on it. Although Stanley and Zero, also known as Hector Zeroni, do not know it, Hector is the great- great-great-grandson of Madame Zeroni.
